$25 to the Sikh Temple on account of a gambling affair and also

that he could not be re-transferred. That was more than 10 days

prior to this trouble. on 21st July I was on Staion Guard duty

between mid-day and 4 p.m From 2.30 p.m. B.543, B.722 and B.9

and B.553 were coming and going between the Station and the trees

at the back. I did not notice anything that B.543 did.

Every-

thing was quite normal when I handed over to B.722 at 4 p.m.

I then went down at once to the married quarters and went to sleep.

I was aroused about 5 p.m. by cries from my wife. I heard shots

fired. The 0. in C. came in. I was sent off round to the East

of the Station. I worked round the hill for about 100 yards.

I heard more shots fired. I could not see any one firing.

I heard one bullet whistle past me. I fired one shot at an upper

window of the Station in the Sergeant's quarters. After 8 or

minutes I was recalled to the married quarters and remained there

for the rest of the day. About 6.45 p.m. or so I heard the voice

of B.722 shout something from the Station to the effect "We are

alive: rescue us. We want to come out. B.543 has shot B.9

Soon afterwards B.722 came down, followed later by the other

three I produce a statement made by B.543 in answer to

charge preferred against him by the 0. in C. just a few days

before this troubie. I took down and translated that statement.

In it B.543 alleged that the 0. in c. had a spite against him.

The decision had not reached Lok Ma Chau by 21.7. (XX.0+)

I produce a further statement taken down by me for B.543 in

answer to a charge made against him by the A.S.P., N.T. in June.

I myself fired 23 shots that afternoon, the last

about 6.30 p.m.*
